Proposal Story

Michael

So, I finally got the ring, just in time before we moved in. And if I didn’t propose before we moved in, I wouldn’t get to do it anyplace memorable because I didn’t see myself leaving the house for a few months.

If we were going to live in SF, there were a few good spots that I could’ve gotten Sarah to without there being any suggestions of a proposal. But in the East Bay, there aren’t any. I mean, the place doesn’t even have a Cheesecake Factory!

But you know what it does have? Yeah, you know. And Sarah would certainly not expect a proposal there, it would certainly make a good story, and it would certainly be memorable for the two of us. Honestly, it ended up being even better than proposing at the Cheesecake Factory.

We were gearing up to move in together over the Thanksgiving holiday and on the Saturday before move-in day, we were out and about in Oakland running errands and making some last-minute organization purchases to help two packrats merge into a 1-bedroom apartment. En route to Target for the last order pickup of the day, we stopped at Taco Bell to snag Michael’s favorite fast food order.

As we got out the car, we continued our extra sappy conversation about feelings and love and partnership and happiness, so it didn’t seem that suspicious when Michael shifted into a suspiciously proposal-y speech. But I thought, of course he’s not proposing because we’re at Taco Bell.

I glanced over at him and saw him on one knee under a tree and I was 100% shocked.

The tree was chef’s kiss!

As we were running errands that day, I told Sarah that I had to get to Taco Bell at some point. She mentioned two locations. I asked if the first one had a parking lot. She said no. Well, we’d have to go to the second one then. I knew I wanted to propose outside, but being able to propose under a tree at night? Oh that was really lovely!
